"""Adventures in the Alphabet"" derives its inspiration from the variety and diversity of the English alphabet, in the order commonly used for teaching little children, ""A is for Apple"", and so on. Needless to say, there are so many possibilities implied in each letter of the alphabet, inviting the ingenuity of the author and inciting the excited response of the reader. The idea for this book arose out of a discussion in a coffee shop with a colleague of mine concerning possible books for me to write. That took place on a Thursday afternoon, and by Sunday morning I phoned my colleague to inform him that I had already completed the book by giving free rein to my ""stream of consciousness"" from one letter to the next, as it were in the manner of James Joyce. It may, moreover, be seen as following in the footsteps of my previous comments on ""That War a Year, That Was""."
