[Introduction] Droptokyo started as a web media outlet in 2007 documenting the youth culture of Tokyo. Around the time it first started, the site voraciously set out to photograph and write about street fashion, especially centered around that of Harajuku. This photo book is best described as a documentation of our path down that road over the past ten years. From a time before smartphones were even a thing to the present day where social media reigns supreme, what has stayed constant about Droptokyo is our dedication to finding the faces that symbolize the Tokyo street fashion of right now. Club culture, hip hop culture, mode girls, normcore… all these key words that describe generations exist within the snapshots we at Droptokyo have taken. This book is one that unravels not just Tokyo street fashion, a scene garnering a lot of attention, but also the modern cultural history of Tokyo. This book also includes interviews with the two ladies that adorn the cover, Nana Komatsu and Mademoiselle Yulia, as well as Naoto (The 3rd J Soul Brothers), photographer Chikashi Suzuki, and six other persons intrinsically tied to the city’s street fashion scene.
